| The
shape of the sculpture base was envisioned to be an irregularly truncated
pyramid.
Bob Szokolay designed the shape, calculated the angles and made the final
mold for the base.

| The
base was cast in two steps. In the first step the face layer, which consisted
of mixture of cement and marble dust, was
applied to the mold surface. The mold was then filled with concrete for
strength and weight.

| Adjustable
leveling feed and a cardboard
pillar were cast into the base
to allow for later assembly of the statue
onto the base. The cardboard pillar
formed a void in the base into which
the spindle supporting the statue
could be embedded.

| While
the base mold was prepared, the
foundry completed and combined two
castings of the sculpture.
Sculpture
and base were positioned and
cast in place.
